Bridging Insights:

Dialogues between Tradition and the Contemporary World

Marco Ferrini & Joshua Greene

The West faces an existential crisis, with traditional values under attack: culture, language, identity, religion, health. Matsya Avatar Prabhu and Yogesvara Prabhu offer insights to avert catastrophe, a vision of hope that is concretely achievable, and that not only explores the challenges of our contemporaneity, but also proposes a future in which the principles of Sanathana Dharma contribute to a holistic approach of the human being toward spiritual realization. Thus, promoting, on the one hand, awareness and responsibility regarding the problems of today's society and, on the other hand, inspiring and supporting people to rediscover themselves and their relationship of love with God, today almost forgotten.

The quest for spiritual enlightenment and the ultimate meaning of life has always characterized human existence and crossed different cultures and civilizations in space and time. Evolved human beings have always intimately perceived the need to contextualize fleeting daily activities within a higher perspective that satisfies the innate aspiration for eternity (sat), awareness (cit) and unconditional happiness (ānanda).

In the contemporary world, where the echoes of history resonate alongside with the challenges of a rapidly changing society, the exploration of the Varna Ashrama Dharma (VAD) emerges as a compelling roadmap toward attaining the brightest peaks of consciousness.

The Varna Ashrama Dharma is not a solution that belongs to the past but rather an extraordinary alternative for the present: the purpose is to transfer this ideality from the potential plane to the effective one.

The Indo-Vedic tradition has maintained its original characteristics over the millennia, despite fundamental modifications and alterations due to historical events. In this socio-cultural context, the varṇa and āśrama system - which organizes society into four compartments of activity and four stages of life along the path to transcendence - is the cornerstone of belonging to a particular community. This community is established on the principle of spiritual realization for all members.

Therefore, dharma is considered a social science that regulates and sustains human action at both the individual and social levels. It allows for the rediscovery of one's sacredness and preserves what is intimate, private, and inalienable in a world where everything is negotiable. We are currently witnessing a systematic and pervasive process of distraction from the sacred, making dharma all the more necessary.
